Watching TV alone can feel isolating.

Imagine sharing your couch with Kamali, a gentle, loving dog, bringing warmth and companionship to your nights. Kamali is house-trained and knows basic commands, simply waiting for a cozy spot with a caring person.

The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas urgently needs help as they’re at capacity with 495 dogs and 318 new arrivals last week. They’re asking community members to foster medium or large dogs—over 35 pounds and older than six months—for at least four weeks.

Foster families receive $200 after four weeks, and all supplies—including food—are provided.

Pick up a pup between September 15 and 19, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the adoption lobby’s foster window.

If you’d like to give Kamali a break, ask for ID A1379013.

Fostering not only changes a dog’s life but helps relieve overcrowding in shelters, making a real impact in our community.

Urgent Alert: Suspicious Activity Targeting Young Girls in Vista's Somerset Neighborhood
🔥 Trending

Residents of Vista’s Somerset neighborhood are increasingly uneasy following several alarming encounters with a suspicious man reportedly targeting young girls.

A parent revealed her daughter has been repeatedly followed over the past few weeks by an older white male, around 50, with light dark brown hair, driving a silver car with tinted windows.

The individual has been seen slowly circling the area and even confronted the girl near her bus stop, demanding she enter his vehicle.

Frightened, the girl escaped into a nearby parent’s car, forcing the man to speed away.

That same day, the family’s car was found ransacked, with a mysterious man’s necklace left inside.

Police have been notified and are expected to investigate.

Parents in Somerset and across Vista are urged to stay alert, supervise their children closely, and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.

Coyote Sighting Near Vassiliadis Elementary School Prompts Brief Campus Hold

A recent coyote sighting near Vassiliadis Elementary School in Summerlin prompted a brief campus hold, underscoring rising anxiety about wildlife in local neighborhoods.

Principal Paul Catania notified families on Monday that the school was placed on "hold status" due to a nearby coyote. Clark County School District Police and animal control responded swiftly, but the coyote’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Located near Alta and Desert Foothills drives, Vassiliadis Elementary sits in an area where coyote activity is on the rise. Summerlin residents have reported more sightings, with coyotes increasingly seen roaming streets and backyards, fueling worries about pet safety.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife links this pattern to drought and urban growth pushing coyotes into neighborhoods. NDOW urges residents to secure trash, supervise pets, and report aggressive wildlife as part of community safety efforts.

Searing Heat Draws Visitors to California's Death Valley, Where It's Tough to Communicate the Risks

Death Valley National Park continues to draw crowds eager to witness its record-breaking heat, despite recent temperatures soaring to a blistering 128°F (53.3°C).

Park rangers warn that underestimated risks often lead to one to three heat-related deaths each year, as many visitors seek help after being overcome by the oppressive conditions.

Signs scattered throughout the park highlight the peril, urging people to avoid outdoor activity after 10 a.m. and emphasizing, "HEAT KILLS!"

Yet, tourists regularly downplay these warnings, sometimes placing themselves in grave danger.

Recent incidents include a failed helicopter rescue during extreme temperatures which left a motorcyclist dead and another hospitalized.

With climate change driving more frequent and severe heat waves, park officials urge both locals and travelers to take all safety precautions seriously when visiting this iconic yet treacherous destination.

Meet the Dogs Desperately Seeking a Break from Las Vegas Shelters

Las Vegas animal shelters are experiencing severe overcrowding, especially with large dogs struggling in the stressful shelter environment. Despite the dedication of shelter staff, many dogs are overwhelmed and need a break. The Animal Foundation recently took in more than 900 animals in just two weeks, creating a pressing need for foster homes. In response, the organization has launched a foster incentive program, offering $200 to participants who foster a dog over six months old and more than 35 pounds for at least four weeks. Their goal is to place 75 large dogs into temporary homes within three days. Fostering gives dogs a much-needed respite and helps them become more adoptable by revealing how they behave in a home setting. Community members can also help by reclaiming lost pets, donating supplies, or reuniting found pets with their owners. Opening your home to a foster dog provides real relief to shelters and transforms canine lives.

Peace Way Bridge Over 215 Beltway in Summerlin Opens, Enhancing Community Connectivity
The new Peace Way bridge over the 215 Beltway in Summerlin is set to open Thursday at 6 a.m., marking the end of a yearlong construction project. Clark County officials will mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting event. The $19.8 million project, which began in June 2024, connects Fort Apache Road to Chessie Court and includes improvements to Peace Way, such as new traffic signals at Hualapai Way. Residents endured lane restrictions and full closures during construction, but the new infrastructure aims to ease traffic and create safer routes for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
