Could your weight loss shot be the next Fountain of Youth? ๐ค |
Let’s be honest…
Most people started taking Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, or Mounjaro hoping to lose a few pounds.
But researchers are starting to ask a much bigger question…
Could these medications actually help people live healthier, and maybe even longer, lives?
Early research suggests they may do more than shrink waistlines. Scientists are studying whether GLP-1 medications may also help reduce inflammation, improve heart health, support kidney function, and better control blood sugar, all factors linked to healthier aging.
One recent study in people living with HIV even found that eight months of semaglutide appeared to slow certain biological markers associated with aging. While that’s exciting, it’s still early research and doesn’t mean these medications have been proven as anti aging treatments.
Before We All Start Calling It the Fountain of Youth… There are still some important trade offs.
Rapid weight loss can also lead to muscle loss and even bone loss if you’re not eating enough protein or doing resistance training.
In other words… losing weight is great.
Losing your muscles? Not so much.
If You’re Taking a GLP-1… Many healthcare providers recommend focusing on:
๐ฅฉEating enough protein
๐๏ธ Strength training a few times a week
๐ง Staying hydrated
๐ด Getting quality sleep
Think of the medication as one tool in the toolbox, not the whole toolbox.
Our Two Cents
Whether you’re hiking Red Rock Canyon, strolling Downtown Summerlin, grabbing coffee at Boca Park, or escaping the heat at Mount Charleston, the goal isn’t just to lose weight…
It’s to feel good enough to enjoy life.
And honestly… that’s something we can all get behind.

๐ด Running on Coffee… and Pure Delusion? It Might Not Be Your Schedule.
If you’ve blamed your exhaustion on Vegas heat, school drop offs, Costco runs, or that “quick” Target trip that somehow cost $247… hear us out.
If you’re constantly tired, losing more hair than your shower drain can handle, feeling foggy, or wondering why your mood changes faster than traffic on the 215, your body could be waving a little white flag called low ferritin.
Ferritin is basically your body’s iron savings account. You can have “normal” iron levels on a blood test and still have almost nothing left in storage. Translation? Your body is trying to survive on the equivalent of couch cushion change.
Women are especially prone to low ferritin thanks to periods, pregnancy, hormonal changes, certain health conditions, and even vegetarian diets.
A few things that can help:
๐ฅฉ Eat more iron rich foods like lean beef, chicken, spinach, lentils, beans, and pumpkin seeds.
If you’ve been dragging yourself through Downtown Summerlin, barely making it around Costco, or needing a nap after walking IKEA… it may be worth asking your healthcare provider to check your ferritin levels, not just your standard iron.
Sometimes it’s not that you’re “getting older.” Sometimes your body is just asking for a little backup. โค๏ธ
