Las Vegas saw a surprising boost in employment this September, adding 4,400 new jobs despite a significant drop in visitor numbers.
Data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation highlights a 0.4% rise in local jobs, even as tourism faces headwinds with an 8.8% year-over-year decline and just 3.1 million visitors this month.
The leisure and hospitality sector fueled much of this growth, contributing 5,100 jobs statewide.
However, Las Vegas hotels reported lower occupancy rates, dropping to 78.7%, with revenue per available room down 9%, and convention attendance falling 18.7% to about 428,400.
Event cancellations and rescheduling, including the absence of MINExpo and Oracle CloudWorld, contributed to the weakening tourism numbers.
Resilient job growth hints at other industries stepping in, showcasing Las Vegas’s complex and evolving economy. Read More... |

Time is running out for Nyla, a two-year-old dog at The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas.
Nyla faces euthanasia if she isn’t placed in a foster home by December 11 at 3:00 PM.
Surrendered by an owner who could no longer afford her, Nyla arrived at the shelter pregnant, was spayed, and has since struggled to adjust.
Despite her gentle heart, she’s overwhelmed by fear, often retreating or growling when scared.
Lack of exposure, denied field trips, and ongoing stress have kept her chances slim, though staff notes reveal glimpses of renewed curiosity and bravery.
She urgently needs a calm, patient foster home—her life depends on it.
The Animal Foundation is over capacity, with 168 dogs recently arriving, and every open kennel counts.
Fostering is free with all supplies provided, and even a short-term commitment could save Nyla’s life.

FOR THE NEW MOM (Summerlin Edition): |
She’s running on love, caffeine from Mothership Coffee, and whatever sleep her tiny human negotiates, and she still looks like she belongs in a Downtown Summerlin catalog shoot.
Give her gifts that make life softer, calmer, and juuust a bit more about her again. Think: a ridiculously cozy robe for those sunrise stroller walks around The Trails, a hands free carrier so she can finally sip her latte before it turns into iced coffee (again), and something restorative for those rare quiet minutes, like a luxe bath soak or a cute journal for capturing every sweet, sleepy smile.
Basically, gift her something that says: “You’re doing amazing, mama. You’re not alone. And you deserve all the comfort Summerlin can offer.” |
Secret Little Hack |
If you want the entire Downtown Summerlin parking lot to yourself, roll in 10 minutes before the shops open. It’s peaceful, it’s quiet, and you get VIP parking without actually being a VIP. (We won’t tell if you just sit there sipping your coffee like you own the place.) |
