Ocha Thai Cuisine, a cornerstone of Las Vegas's dining scene, has closed its doors after 36 years of serving authentic Thai dishes in downtown.

The restaurant announced its immediate closure on Instagram, expressing "profound sorrow" over the decision.

The post cited a "dramatic decline in tourism" leading to an "unprecedented drop in business."

Established in 1989 by two sisters from Thailand, Ocha Thai Cuisine quickly became a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike.

Over the years, it offered a variety of traditional dishes, including papaya mango salad, tom yum soup, spicy beef noodle soup, Thai fried rice, pad Thai, pad see ew, deep-fried catfish, mint chicken, Thai beef jerky, and aromatic beef curry.

In 2023, the family expanded their culinary reach by opening Ocha Thai Food at 873 S. Rainbow Blvd., just north of West Charleston Boulevard.

This location continues to serve favorites like papaya crab salad, Thai scrambled eggs, fried rice, curries, and deep fried catfish, a nod to the original menu.

Despite the downtown closure, the family remains committed to sharing their passion for Thai cuisine with the Las Vegas community.

Patrons can still enjoy their beloved dishes at the Rainbow Boulevard location, ensuring that the legacy of Ocha Thai lives on.

For those seeking authentic Thai flavors, Ocha Thai Food on Rainbow Boulevard offers a taste of tradition in a modern setting.

As Las Vegas continues to evolve, the resilience of family-owned establishments like Ocha Thai Food highlights the enduring appeal of authentic, heartfelt cuisine.

While the closure of the downtown location marks the end of an era, the spirit of Ocha Thai persists, inviting both longtime fans and new diners to experience the rich flavors that have defined this culinary institution for over three decades.
