🐾 Community Spotlight

A LITTLE TIME. A BIG TAIL WAG.

🐾 Got a free afternoon? Give a shelter dog a little adventure—and discover how easy it is to help.

Doggy DAYS Out gives Las Vegas-area residents a simple way to help shelter dogs without committing to a long-term foster.

Throughout October 2026, participants can take an eligible dog from The Animal Foundation on a daytime outing for a few hours.

The shelter provides basic gear, while volunteers provide time, attention, and a break from the kennel environment.

For Summerlin residents, the program offers a flexible community-service option that can fit into a single afternoon.

Outings can help dogs decompress and show more of their personality outside the shelter.

The program runs through October 31, 2026. Residents can also browse adoptable pets or review the October 12 fee-waived adoption event.

Meet Simba (A1270566), a playful five-year-old shelter dog looking for a home through The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas. He knows basic commands and loves squeaky toys and tennis balls.

Simba is treat-motivated and may thrive in a calmer, patient home without small dogs. Ask shelter staff about his needs and confirm his current availability before visiting.

LIFESTYLE

for your group chat

Apparently, we have things to discuss...

West Valley, the group chat deserves something beyond “Where are we eating?” A little culture, a little curiosity, and at least one reason to send a link to your friends.

  • Art is better when you have an opinion about it. Explore the Nevada Museum of Art online and pick one exhibition you would actually make a trip for. Bonus points if your group chat disagrees.
  • Our desert has a story worth knowing. Browse the Red Rock Canyon conservation area and find out what makes those sandstone cliffs so striking. The next scenic drive might come with a few fun facts.
  • There is an entire library of free things to discover. Look through the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District for events, classes, and something unexpected to learn.
  • Want to do something good between plans? See how The Animal Foundation helps local pets, whether you can adopt, volunteer, or simply share a story.

Basically, West Valley... the group chat is officially open.

Send the link that makes someone say, “Wait... I didn't know that.”

WEST VALLEY LIFESTYLE

Mindful Minute

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU DID SOMETHING FOR THE FIRST TIME?

West Valley, when was the last time you switched up your normal routine just because you could?

No, we're not suggesting you quit your job and move to Italy. We're talking tiny adventures. Take a different route home. Try a new recipe. Say yes to a class you would normally scroll past.

You could explore free local library events and classes, try a short guided mindfulness exercise, or plan a different kind of walk with the Red Rock Canyon visitor information. Check schedules and conditions before going.

The change doesn't have to be huge. It just has to be yours.

YOUR WEST VALLEY CHALLENGE

Do ONE thing differently this week.

Order something new. Listen to an artist you've never heard. Take the scenic route. Worst case? You decide it isn't for you. Best case? You find a new favorite.

🌱 Tiny takeaway: A small change can make an ordinary week feel more memorable.

WEST VALLEY LIFESTYLE

The Beauty Drop

YOUR FIVE-MINUTE BEAUTY RESET (YES, FIVE).

West Valley, a busy weekend doesn't require a complicated routine. Sometimes the best beauty trick is making your morning a little easier.

Keep the basics basic. A gentle cleanse, moisturizer, and sunscreen can be plenty before heading out. For daytime sun protection, the American Academy of Dermatology's sunscreen guide is a useful place to check the essentials.

Let your hair take the easy route. Smooth flyaways, gather a low bun with soft satin scrunchies, or use a simple claw clip when you're short on styling time.

Make your bag work harder than your makeup bag. Keep a Burt's Bees lip balm, a hair tie, and water handy for little touch-ups between stops.

The goal isn't to look like you spent an hour getting ready. It's to feel ready for whatever the day turns into.

✨ The takeaway: A few easy habits beat an overstuffed routine.

Amazon links open product searches; sellers, prices, and availability vary. Editorial suggestions, not paid placements.

Go somewhere local. Try something new. Say hi to a neighbor.

We’ll keep watching Summerlin so your group chat doesn’t have to. Now, about that trivia question… 👇

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:
B) 22,500 acres. Summerlin spans about 22,500 acres along the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley.
