Panic erupted late Tuesday morning at Smith’s Food & Drug near Silverado Ranch Boulevard, when an armed gunman opened fire inside the busy Las Vegas grocery store, killing a married couple who both worked there.

Police say Alejandro Alfonso Estrada, who had a prior relationship and custody disputes with the female victim, specifically targeted the pair in a domestic-related attack.

As terrified customers fled, two shoppers—Merconie Clark and Darius Alston—risked their lives and confronted Estrada outside the store.

Together, they tackled the suspect, wrestled away a firearm, and pinned him down until officers arrived, preventing further tragedy amid scenes of chaos.

Authorities and witnesses praised their bravery, crediting the men’s decisive actions for saving countless lives.

Estrada faces multiple felony charges.

Counseling and support services have now been offered citywide as the community mourns—and hails two local heroes.
