A local man is sounding the alarm across Las Vegas after a frightening bee attack at a Summerlin park left residents shaken and on edge.

What initially seemed like a random incident is now being linked to Africanized honey bees often referred to as “killer bees."

A far more aggressive species known for attacking in large numbers when disturbed.

Experts warn this isn’t an isolated event.

A local pest control company says encounters with Africanized honey bees tend to spike this time of year as temperatures rise, increasing the risk of sudden and potentially dangerous swarms.

Unlike typical bees, these are quicker to defend their hives and will pursue perceived threats over longer distances making even a routine day at the park turn into a terrifying situation.

If You Encounter The Killer Bee

  • RUN fast and far - Get away as quickly as possible in a straight line. These bees will chase you.

  • Protect your face- Cover your eyes, nose, and mouth with your shirt or hands. Bees target the head.

  • Get indoors ASAP - A house, car, or building is your best protection. Close doors and windows.

  • Keep moving – Don’t stop until you’re fully inside and safe.

What NOT To Do

  • Don’t swat at them [ This makes them more aggressive.

  • Don’t jump in water – They will wait for you to come up.

  • Don’t hide in bushes or small spaces – They can swarm around you.

⚠️ If You're Stung

  • Remove stingers quickly (scrape them off—don’t pinch).

  • Watch for allergic reactions (trouble breathing, swelling, dizziness).

  • Call 911 immediately if there are multiple stings or any severe symptoms.

🧠 Pro Tip

If you see a swarm or hear loud buzzing, leave the area immediately—don’t investigate.

These bees are aggressive, but most attacks happen when their hive is disturbed. Stay aware, move quickly, and get to safety.
