Adoption Spotlight: Meet Rocko ❀️

Meet Rocko…

Not every hero wears a cape… some just wag their tail and patiently wait for someone to notice them.

Meet Rocko, a 6 year old sweetheart who’s been waiting at The Animal Foundation since May. He loves sniffing every bush on his walks (clearly gathering all the neighborhood gossip), enjoys belly rubs, and is dreaming of a comfy couch to finally call his own.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a best friend to the family, this might be your sign. Let’s help Rocko trade kennel life for couch life. ❀️

Know someone looking for a loyal companion? Share Rocko’s story, it only takes one person to change his life.

From frozen foreheads to famous raccoons, here’s what’s distracting the West Valley this week.

Vegas heat could be wrecking your glow. Apparently iced coffee doesn’t count as water. Rude.

Botox might do more than fight wrinkles. Suddenly that appointment is “research.”

What’s actually hiding in your clothes? Your cute Downtown Summerlin outfit may have secrets.

Beauty’s favorite buzzword has some baggage. And ohhh… it’s messy.

There’s a new influencer in town. He’s furry, chaotic and doesn’t even need a Ring Light. Icon.

What’s in Your “Oh Crap” Pouch?

TikTok has given us questionable recipes, things we absolutely did not need from Amazon, and now… something that might actually be useful: the panic pouch.

Think of it as a tiny emotional emergency kit you keep in your purse, car, desk, or wherever life likes to test your patience.

Because sometimes anxiety shows up uninvited. Maybe you’re stuck on the 215, standing in a Costco checkout line that apparently extends into Henderson, or trying to find parking at Downtown Summerlin on a Saturday. Suddenly your heart’s racing, your stomach’s doing gymnastics, and your brain has opened approximately 47 tabs at once.

That’s where the pouch comes in.

The idea is simple: fill a small bag with things that engage your senses, comfort you, or help bring your attention back to the moment.

What Goes Inside?

Sour candy or strong mints? Give your brain something VERY different to think about.

A favorite lotion or scented rollerball? Something familiar and comforting that smells like peace… or at least not the Costco parking lot.

A little note to yourself. A favorite quote, affirmation, photo, or reminder that you’ve survived every bad day you’ve had so far.

Something to fidget with, a smooth stone, squishy toy, slime, bracelet, keepsake… whatever keeps your hands busy when your brain decides to audition for Fast & Furious.

Electrolyte packets or ginger chews? Especially handy when stress makes your stomach join the rebellion.

Make It Yours

The best part? There are no panic pouch police.

Maybe yours has lip balm, AirPods, gum, perfume, a photo of your dog and enough emergency chocolate to survive being trapped inside IKEA.

Perfect.

The whole point is filling it with small things you find comforting or grounding.

TRY THIS TODAY

Grab that cute little makeup bag you’ve had sitting in a drawer since 2019 and make your own.

Five minutes. A few comforting favorites. Toss it in your purse.

Hopefully you never need it.

But the next time life goes full Vegas at 5 PM on the 215, you might be very glad it’s there.

If anxiety is frequent, severe, or interfering with everyday life, a panic pouch isn’t a substitute for professional care. Consider talking with a qualified healthcare professional.

Summer Hair Survival Guide: Because Vegas Is Basically an Air Fryer

Summerlin summers are fabulous for pool days, patio drinks, and pretending a quick walk through Downtown Summerlin won’t leave you questioning every life choice you’ve ever made.

Your hair, however, is not having the same experience.

Between 110° Vegas heat, UV rays, chlorine, sweat, extra washing, and the flat iron you swore you were going to “use less this summer,” your hair can be one pool party away from looking like decorative hay.

Here’s how to get it through summer with some dignity intact.

Protect It Before Vegas Cooks It

You wouldn’t spend an afternoon at Red Rock Resort’s pool without sunscreen, and your hair would also like some protection, please.

UV exposure can dry out your strands and fade that expensive color you absolutely did not sit three hours in a salon chair to watch disappear by August.

A UV protecting leave in or lightweight styling product before heading outside can help protect your hair from all that Vegas sunshine.

Think of it as SPF’s hotter cousin.

Your Hair Is Thirsty Too

If your ends suddenly feel like the landscaping around Boca Park, we have a hydration problem.

Sun, chlorine, heat and constant washing can leave hair rough, tangled and approximately three bad decisions away from becoming a bird’s nest.

Add a hydrating hair mask, deep conditioner or hydrating oil (perfect for hair extensions) into your summer routine.

Your hair needs moisture just as badly as you need that giant iced drink after walking through the Downtown Summerlin parking lot.

Stop Fighting the Frizz

You styled your hair.

You walked outside.

Your hair said, “That’s adorable.”

While Vegas isn’t exactly Miami level humid, monsoon season can introduce just enough moisture to turn a polished blowout into something with its own ZIP code.

Instead of piling on heavy products until your hair stops moving entirely, try a lightweight smoothing or anti frizz product that helps control flyaways while keeping some bounce.

We’re going for Summerlin brunch hair.

Not helmet.

Maybe Put Down the Flat Iron

Your hair is already spending its summer being slow roasted by Mother Nature.

It probably doesn’t need another 400 degrees from you every morning.

Try heatless curls, braids, buns, ponytails or simply lowering the temperature on your styling tools.

And when you do reach for the blow dryer or curling iron, use a heat protectant.

Seriously.

That’s not the product we’re skipping so we can afford another Target run.

Your Scalp Would Like Some Attention

Between sweat, dry shampoo, sunscreen and approximately 14 products we’ve convinced ourselves are essential, your scalp can get pretty gross by midsummer.

A gentle clarifying treatment or scalp focused product occasionally can help remove buildup and give everything a reset.

Just don’t go nuclear and strip every drop of moisture out of your hair.

We are cleaning the scalp.

We are not pressure washing the driveway.

The Vegas Hair Rule

You don’t need 37 products to survive summer.

Focus on the basics:

Protect. Hydrate. Smooth. Use less heat. Take care of your scalp.

Because Vegas is already doing enough damage for everybody.

And if your hair still looks fabulous after a pool day, 110° heat and a Costco run?

Congratulations. You’ve officially beaten the final boss of Summerlin summer.

Main Character Energy, but Make It Summerlin

Whether you’re manifesting a new career, more travel, better habits, or simply making it through the 215 without questioning humanity, a little intention never hurts.

Think of these as your “get my life together” starter pack, part motivation, part self care, and part excuse to buy something cute. Because apparently writing “become wildly successful” in a pretty journal feels much more official than

typing it in your Notes app while wandering Trader Joe’s for snacks you absolutely did not come in for.

Here are 10 little finds for dreaming bigger, resetting your energy, and entering your next chapter like you absolutely meant to do this:

  1. 1. Etsy Handmade Spell Jars. Tiny jars for big intentions. Because sometimes your five year plan needs glitter.

2. Stakt Yoga Mat. For yoga, stretching, meditation… or lying dramatically on the floor after Costco.

3. LILFOX Crystal Infused Mineral Soak. Turn your bathtub into a mini Red Rock spa experience without the resort bill.

4. J. Southern Studio Manifestation & Divination Kit. For when your regular planner isn’t giving the universe clear enough instructions.

5. Etsy Sunshine in a Jar Affirmations. Little confidence boosts for mornings when Vegas traffic has already tested your spirituality.

6. Continuous Ink Inhale/Exhale Sweatshirt. A wearable reminder to breathe. Especially useful on the 215 at 5 p.m.

7. High Light Rituals New Beginnings Necklace. New job? New relationship? New era? Or maybe you’re just done answering texts that annoy you. Growth is growth.

8. Papier Travel Journal. For documenting fabulous adventures or planning the vacation you’ve mentally been on since Tuesday.

9. Elevate Vision Board Kit. Put those big dreams somewhere besides the 47 screenshots currently living in your phone.

10. Spoken Flames Candle. Light it. Set the mood. Make your intentions. Politely inform the universe you’re ready.

Sometimes a fresh start doesn’t require moving mountains or even leaving Summerlin.

A cute journal, a quiet moment, and a little “watch me” energy might be enough to get things moving.

Cooking more at home? Before you start chopping like you’re auditioning for a cooking show somewhere in Summerlin, apparently your cutting board matters more than we thought. Wood? Plastic? Glass? Here’s what experts say is actually healthiest, because dinner is stressful enough without side eyeing the cutting board.
